Sea Serpent is a mythological creature reported to be sighted in Grand Theft Auto games.

History

Sea Serpent is a legendary dragon like monster believed to dwell unthinkable depths of the ocean, living in pitch black caves and only emerges out of the water surface on extremely rare occasions. Throughout history, this myth was mainly narrated by sailors who journeyed through great distances in the past. Numerous sailors have spoken about these tales and how they narrowly escaped or merely sighted the monster when sailing in deep oceans. Many missing ships in history which have disappeared for no practical reason, have been allegedly swallowed by this monster. Centuries later, the myth was given various names according to different accounts of sightings by individuals at different places such the mythical Loch Ness Monster from Scotland. Sea Serpents according to scientific hypothesis could be sightings of a few remaining plesiosaurs, an aquatic species of dinosaur rumored to have survived the extinction. However, this is considered unlikely since plesiosaurs are apparently giant creatures, likely to be sighted without much aquatic search.

In the world of Grand Theft Auto games, the myth started with reports emerging from the gaming forum neoseeker, about the Sea Monster in GTA Vice City, ever since there have been dozens of videos published, showing individual searches around the city to hunt down the monster. According to myth hunters, there's an undiscovered place called the Abyssal Ocean which is home to the giant Kraken. The myth then emerged in a Rockstar game called Saints Row 2, which included a real Loch Ness Monster in the Super Secret Area of the game. Players then modded Fisher's Lagoon and added a modified Loch Ness Monster in the game.

GTA San Andreas also featured a helicopter called Leviathan, the helicopter's name was a reference to an ancient demonic monster in Hebrew history. Years later, various users on Youtube posted videos in relation to bizarre and inexplicable sightings of vague nature in the waters of Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV, the myth was known as the Rotterdam Monster. Recently, the myth has become a center of attention in Grand Theft Auto V with many players reporting sea monsters like the Kraken in the The Abyss or the Loch Ness Monster sighted in rivers or lakes. The game includes a submarine named after the Kraken.
