Radioactive Crates are a proven myth in Grand Theft Auto IV.

Description

Strewn aboard the deck of the Platypus are 8 small crates adorned with Cyrillic text, bearing alarming radioactive warning symbols. The text appears on two faces of the crates, with the majority of text repeated. When translated from Russian, the text shows many references to nuclear material.

It is unknown what the crates may hold as no label or logo on their exteriors gives any clue of their contents. It is possible the crates may contain illegal and potentially dangerous materials imported for Liberty City's Russian Mafia or even for use in terrorist acts. It is also possible the warning signs are simply precautionary measures due to the content's Russian and/or Eastern European origin, as they may be lightly contaminated with radiation as a result of the still prevalent fallout from the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. They could also be there as a consequence of the Cold War, the text on the box reading "October 28th" is a reference to the end of the Cuban missile crisis.
