The Easter Egg Alley is an Easter egg featured in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

Description[]

Early Discovery[]

The alley was discovered as early as June 2009, which was about 3 months after the game initial release. A user by the name of Metroidude477 posted on GameFAQs on June 13, 2009 that there is an RPG spawn there alongside with an "Angel" (actually a Sanchez) but he did not know of a way to get in there. Another user by the name of dark52 corroborated the existence of said alley and mentioned the use of the nearby stunt jump with a bike to land on the scaffolding before jumping down into the alley.[1]

The alley was also known among speedrunners of the game since 2017. The earliest recorded speedrun of the game utilizing the RPG from the alley was dated from May 18, 2017.[2]

Recent Rediscovery[]

This Easter egg was made known to the wider GTA community on September 10, 2023 by Brazilian player "Kamikatsu" almost 14 years after the game's original release.[3] It was discovered by accident while flying a helicopter in the neighborhood of South Bohan (acquired via cheat device on a PSP emulator). It was never listed on any Easter egg lists or videos on the internet until then.[4]

While flying above a complex of buildings across the street from a derelict auto shop building (blown up by Niko Bellic one year prior to the events of Chinatown Wars, during the mission "Rigged to Blow"), the aforementioned player found an alley of difficult access, with a Sanchez parked in the middle and a Rocket Launcher pickup (the only known spawn point in the entire map as of now).

On the walls, there is a unique graffiti of a literal Easter egg, alongside another which appears to be an white Easter bunny, confirming to be an intentional Easter egg.

The easter egg was first reported by the @GTAWikiOfficial official Twitter account and shortly after reposted by multiple GTA-related news Twitter accounts. Later, on the replies for the wiki's original Tweet, other players have tested this on other platforms (Android and original Nintendo DS versions) and confirmed this Easter egg is present in all platforms.
